Police are looking for the thief who snatched Gainesville Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan's wallet from her office at City Hall on Monday, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
Lt. Ed Book said the wallet was stolen sometime between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. from the mayor's first-floor office at City Hall in downtown Gainesville.
City Commissioner Chuck Chestnut said the wallet contained $250 in cash, credit cards and a city identification card, which gains entry into secure sections of City Hall.
Although the building is usually secure, Chestnut said the back doors were open Monday because carpet is being installed in the commissioners' offices on the fourth floor of the building.
Police have no suspects and no leads despite searching the area and are reviewing surveillance tapes from the building, Book said.
