Keep the focus on unity

The movie "Remember the Titans," based on the story of the integration of a Virginia High School in the 1970s and the impact it had on the football team's coaches and players, the community, and the families is very inspiring. There are similar domestic and foreign concerns all of us face today. After watching the film, many questions came to mind.
What if peace was seriously considered as a legitimate goal rather than formulating an agenda for aggression? Consider the situations in Iran, Syria and North Korea.
What if reconciliation was considered a positive spin instead of a weakness?
What if the military-industrial complex was reconfigured to design motives and arsenals for peace locales instead of battlefields?
Why do we grimace at the grotesque outcomes driven by the forces of power and greed? Couldn't these forces help form partners instead of opponents?
Is it possible to believe that we can be strengthened and united by our differences? We can become uniters, not dividers! Something to think about in the new year.
