Kenneth James Dougherty

  • Kenneth "Ken" James Dougherty of Chiefland died Dec. 28 in Gainesville after a brief illness. He was 57.
    Mr. Dougherty was born in Elizabeth, N.J., and moved to Chiefland from Citrus County four years ago. He was a newspaper reporter for the Levy County Journal.
    He enjoyed cooking, boating, fishing and Nascar. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
    Survivors include his daughter, Carey Dougherty of Atlanta, and brothers Robert Dougherty of Scotch Plains, N.J., and Jeff Dougherty of New Jersey.

    Marguerite Virginia Hanley

  • Marguerite "Margie" Virginia Hanley of Cedar Key died after a battle with cancer Friday in Chiefland. She was 84.
    Mrs. Hanley was born in Williamsport, Pa., and moved to Cedar Key from Tampa in 1992. She was a homemaker.
    She was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church.
    Survivors include daughters Virginia Sinclair of Tampa and Vicki Gauger of Corona, Calif.; a son, John Hanley of Cedar Key; sisters Vivian Eckroth of Cedar Key, and Eva Eckroth and Mary Lou Orwig, both of Williamsport; a brother, Walter Eckroth of Lancaster, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

    Geraldine I.R. Hassell

  • Geraldine I.R. Hassell of Williston died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was 84.
    Mrs. Hassell was born in Meno, Okla., and moved to Williston in 1967.
    She was a homemaker. She was an avid golfer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor G. Hassell.
    Survivors include sons Don Hassell of Carthage, Miss., Terry Hassell of Gainesville and David Hassell of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Vicky Griffith of Miami; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    David Roy

  • David Roy of Chiefland died Friday in Gainesville. He was 57.
    Born in New Bedford, Mass., Mr. Roy moved to Chiefland from Spencer, Mass., four years ago.
    He was a retired truck driver. He was in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW Post in Chiefland and of the National Foresters.
    Survivors include his wife, Charlene Roy of Chiefland; his mother, Dorothy Robinson of New Bedford, Mass.; daughters Stacy Fortier of Pascoag, R.I., Marion Donahe, Ashley MacArthur and Casie Wharton, all of Chiefland; sons Christopher Roy of Chiefland and Tony Roy; foster daughter Chasity Pinkney of Chiefland; brother Ronald Roy of New Bedford; sisters Gayle Farrell, Sandi Pietragalla and Karyn Robinson, all of New Bedford, and Christine Duclos of Rhode Island; and three grandchildren.
