Up north they know a better way to turn

A few days ago The Gainesville Sun had an article about the left turn problem in Gainesville. Left turn lights are either too long or they skip every other turn and you can't go even if no other cars are in sight.
In Michigan and some other northern states they don't have this problem in most cities. Have you heard the saying "I don't care how they do it up north"? Well they do have a better idea on how to do left hand turns.
When the left green arrow goes off the light turns to a blinking red light, which means stop then go if safe to do so. I hope Florida will do this some day.
