UF faces next depth charge

At 0-10, Morgan State would seem a likely candidate as the worst team that No. 5 Florida will face this season.
That distinction may wait until later in the month, when 0-13 Savannah State visits Jan. 18 for the final non-conference game on Florida's regular-season schedule. Still, no one will mistake the winless Bears for the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers when they face Florida tonight at the O'Connell Center.
Coached by ex-NBA point guard Butch Beard, Morgan State ranks 317th out of 333 Division I teams in CBS Sportsline RPI ratings. It won't serve as the test that Florida would like heading into its Southeastern Conference opener Saturday at Georgia, but it should give Florida coach Billy Donovan another chance to use his bench.
Florida's bench scored 38 points in its 84-47 rout of Florida A&M to improve its record start to 12-0.
"Sometimes, it's about players," Donovan said. "The makeup of these guys, they've come into the season and played unselfish. We're fortunate to be 12-0 but at the same time have done the things that we needed to do offensively and defensively to win those games."
Junior guard Lee Humphrey is back on a hot shooting streak. Humphrey has made nine of his last 10 3-point attempts and with 40 3-pointers has already eclipsed the number of 3s he made as a reserve (37) last season.
Donovan said he is not concerned about the recent weakness of the schedule, which has resulted in Florida winning its last three home games by an average of 36.7 points.
"Our schedule has been balanced," Donovan said. "There are generally times when you have to play those guaranteed games. You wonder what it does to the mindset of your players, but we've played on the road at Providence and Miami and up in New York against Syracuse and Wake Forest. I think we've been tested."
