’In the shelter of the sun’

So much of nature photography is being at the right place at the right time.
Florida is bursting with fascinating wildlife, and part of the fun (and most of the challenge) comes from trekking through swamps, forests and grasslands searching for it.
Fortunately, not every photo requires an expedition. Sometimes all you have to do is walk out the front door.
We planted sunflowers along the edge of the garden in the front yard to shade the more delicate vegetables from the wilting heat of summer. I shot this photo on a warm afternoon as one turned its heavy blossom towards the sky.
