Local residents should be sure to stock up on Fourth of July goodies and take care of any official business before the holiday hits Monday, because most area offices and services will shut down in observance of the holiday.
Also, Monday will mark one of the five recognized holidays when garbage will not be picked up in Gainesville or Alachua County, forcing the pickup to be delayed by one day through the rest of the week.
"Alachua County and city of Gainesville curbside collection service for garbage, recycling and yard trash is on a holiday schedule next week," said Gina Hawkins, public education specialist with the city of Gainesville Public Works Department. "So there will be no collection on Monday. Monday's collections will occur on Tuesday, Tuesday's will occur on Wednesday and so on. Regular collection will resume the following Monday."
In addition to delayed curbside pickup, rural collection centers in Alachua County will also be closed on Monday, according to Milton Towns, waste collection manager for Alachua County.
"The five Alachua County rural collection centers and the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station will also be closed on Monday," Towns said.
