University of Florida junior men's golfer Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) was honored by the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday as its men's Golfer of the Week after earning his third career individual medalist honor at the 2005 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at the Sawgrass Country Club.
It is the third such honor for Every, and the first since the week of March 24, 2004, when he was a sophomore.
Every shot a one-under-par 215 to claim medalist honors at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, Feb. 20-22, at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla. Earning UF's 64th medalist finish in program history, Every helped lead the Gators to their second straight tournament team title by coming from behind in the final round to record a then-season-low round of 280, to give Florida a five-stroke win over Alabama.
A member of the Ben Hogan Award Watch List, Every leads the team with a 72.27 stroke average and has earned four top-10 finishes in his six tournaments this season. By recording 14 career top-10 finishes, Every is currently tied for ninth-place on the all-time top-10 finishes list in Gator golf history.
The Gators wrap up the 2005 Puerto Rico Classic later today and will travel next to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Las Vegas Intercollegiate hosted by UNLV at Southern Highlands on March 11-13.
