Literacy is alive and flourishing in Alachua County.
The families and staff of The Magic School House Family Literacy Programs of the School Board of Alachua County would like to thank the many members of our community who wished us "Seasons Readings."
Sponsored by the National Center for Family Literacy, in conjunction with Verizon Wireless and Barnes & Noble Booksellers, "A Million Books for a Million Children" adopted our center as its beneficiary.
Thanks to the tireless enthusiasm of the Barnes & Noble staff, more than 520 books were purchased by holiday shoppers for distribution at our holiday celebration.
This meant that not only did our Magic School House families receive books, but we were able to share with Prairie View Academy and Head Start students on our campus.
If you gave a book, rest assured you made a child smile.

Hospital the best

I have been a patient at all three major hospitals in Gainesville, where the care and treatment I received can be described as "good."
Recently, I was admitted to the VA hospital in Gainesville. I discovered that the care and treatment I received far surpasses that of the other city hospitals.
The VA ranks as "par excellence" in my opinion. I am so grateful for and proud of this fine and outstanding facility gracing our community and so admirably serving our veterans.

D.L. "Pete" Peterson,

Gainesville
