ALACHUA COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Students participate in All-State choruses

  • Seven elementary students and seven students from Lincoln Middle School represented the Alachua County school district at the Florida Music Educators Association's All-State Chorus.
    The event was held at a conference in Tampa.
    The elementary students were selected to be a part of the 200-voice Elementary All-State Chorus.
    The students were Arianne Hampton, Adam Nolan and Kailee Brooks, Wiles; Jesse Appelson-White and Sarah Casella, J.J. Finley and Jason Kim and Catherine Wahl, Hidden Oak.
    From Lincoln, Elizabeth Johanson and Marina Martin sang in the Florida All-State Treble Chorus. Grace Kim, Anjun Ahmed, Ritza Calixte, Victoria Caudle and Stella Jeon sang in the Florida All-State Mixed Chorus.
    All the students had to audition for their spots.

    EASTSIDE HIGH: IB has open house

  • The International Baccalaureate, or IB program, an academic magnet program, is hosting an open house for interested eighth graders and their parents/guardians.
    It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the school. Applications can be picked up at all middle schools, at the open house, and also can be found on the school's Web site at www.ehs.sbac.edu, or by calling the IB office at 955-6704 ext. 229.
    The deadline for applications is March 1.
