DUNNELLON -- Marion County sheriff's officials have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 11-year-old boy who investigators believe may have been kidnapped by a friend of his father.
Adam David Kirkirt was last seen Tuesday afternoon when Frederick E. Fretz Jr., 42, picked him up at Dunnellon Elementary School. Sheriff's officials say Fretz is registered as a sex offender in Pennsylvania and Arizona but did not register when moving to Florida, a violation of the law.
Fretz befriended Adam Kirkirt's father, Ivert Kirkirt, 41, when the two men were inmates at the Marion County Jail, according to the Sheriff's Office. Fretz was in jail on domestic battery and marijuana possession charges, and Kirkirt was in jail for violation of probation on aggravated battery.
The two men have been living together in an apartment at 3387 W. Silver Springs Blvd. Adam Kirkirt lived with them there since December, and Fretz would routinely pick him up from school, according to the Sheriff's Office.
