Fire from a burning vehicle spread to a Gainesville car dealership early Wednesday, causing several thousand dollars in damage, Gainesville Fire Rescue reported.
Firefighters arrived at Val-U Car, 1703 N. Main St., at about 2:30 a.m. to find a sports utility vehicle engulfed in flames, said GFR spokeswoman Shawna Traub. The fire apparently had spread from the vehicle, parked close to an overhang covered with wood shingles, to the building's roof and roof decking.
Firefighters stopped the blaze from spreading to the inside of the building. A car parked near the SUV also was damaged by the intense heat.
The blaze, which is considered suspicious, remains under investigation.
No one was injured in the fire, and the dealership is open today.
