University of Florida junior men's swimmer Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) was honored by the Southeastern Conference on Wednesday as its men's Swimmer of the Week after earning five individual event wins and two relay victories.
It is the third such honor for Lochte and the first since the week of Jan. 20, 2004, when he was a sophomore.
Lochte, named as the Outstanding Swimmer at the Dallas Morning News Classic for the second consecutive year, was a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that broke a meet and pool record, while also breaking the 200-yard backstroke meet and pool record by over a second and a half.
Currently, Lochte holds the nation's top time in the 100-yard backstroke (46.72) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:43.81), while holding the second-best time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:34.05) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:43.22).
The second-ranked Gators return to action on Friday, Jan. 21, as they travel to No. 3 Auburn for an SEC showdown versus the Tigers.
