Taking action against a property tax injustice

Hooray! At last, someone has stepped up to the plate and is doing the right thing. Talk about fair.
Is it fair to all the businesses doing business with and served by the University of Florida to pay property taxes and not the Hilton? This is an issue that has bugged me since construction of that hotel broke ground.
I spoke to our then-state representative about this unfair situation and was told "not to worry." In past years, I have written several letters to The Sun about this unfairness. They were obviously considered not worthy of publication. All that is water over the dam.
Now who do we praise? Property Appraiser Ed Crapo? The city of Gainesville? City Attorney Marion Radson?
My hat is off to all who are responsible for this very positive step in rectifying a major property tax problem. I, for one, hope that the powers are with them in a successful conclusion.
John S. Clark, Gainesville
