PARK CITY, Utah - Authorities ended a large-scale search in the vast debris field of an avalanche Monday and said a man whose body was found over the weekend was probably the lone victim.
"Right now, we believe that we have taken the one sole victim out of there," Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds said at a news conference.
Initial eyewitness accounts had led authorities to believe as many as five people might have been caught up in Friday's slide near Park City, about 20 miles east of Salt Lake City.
In Idaho, meanwhile, two snowboarders from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., were killed in an avalanche south of Mullan, the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office said.
