Keeping our children healthy

In this new year, the best resolution that parents with uninsured children can make is to take advantage of the January open-enrollment period for Healthy Kids. This health-insurance program provides kids regular checkups, immunizations and dental visits critical to their healthy growth and development.
During this 30-day open enrollment, we are encouraging families who don't qualify for Medicaid and don't have access to health insurance through their employers to send in a Healthy Kids application for their children.
There are 72,000 spots available in the program, so families need to act now.
Applications are available over the phone, by mail and on the Internet. New changes recently approved by the Florida Legislature have reduced the amount of paperwork needed to apply.
I'm challenging working families to make a commitment to their child's health in 2005.
Log on to www.healthykids.org/ to download an enrollment application, or call (888) 540-KIDS (5437) to have an application sent in the mail.
Be sure to return the completed application before the Jan. 30 deadline.
