Ouellette Falls Short In SEC Indoor Championship Match

New Orleans - Florida men's tennis freshman Greg Ouellette came up short in his bid for the 2005 SEC Men's Tennis Championship in New Orleans on Monday morning. After winning five matches in three days, Ouellette fell 6-2, 6-2, to LSU's 12th-ranked and third seeded Ken Skupski.

Ouellette began the tournament with a win over Auburn's Nick Lane on Friday (7-5, 3-6, 6-2). The next day, Ouellette moved on with a pair of wins. He started off by defeating Kentucky's Matt Emery 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, before downing LSU's Peter Richman in the round of 16, 6-3, 6-4. On Sunday, Ouellette reached the final with wins over Tennessee's Mark Dietrich, 6-2, 7-6 (5), and Kentucky's Alex Hume (6-1, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5)).
Florida will begin its 2005 dual match season at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, as the Gators take on UCF in Gainesville. UF begins its fourth season under head coach Andy Jackson looking for its 17th-straight opening match victory.
