The body of an unidentified man was found Sunday evening in a northwest Gainesville house after police responded to a burglary call.
Officers found the body at 5:20 p.m. in a bedroom of the home at 3734 NW 22nd Terrace in the Palmetto Woods subdivision, Gainesville Police Sgt. Keith Kameg said.
Area directories list the address as the residence of Shane A. Lewis, but Kameg said police could not yet confirm the identity of the body.
Police went to the scene after a neighbor noticed a broken window at the front of the house and called to report it as a possible burglary, Kameg said.
Detectives and forensics units were at the scene Sunday night, but due to the condition of the body they were unable to determine the cause of death or the man's name, Kameg said.
He said that foul play has not been confirmed and that detectives have ruled the incident as a "death investigation" pending autopsy results.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Alan Coleman at (352) 334-2427.
