Education series begins

  • The UF Shands Eastside Community Practice will kick off its education
    series with a discussion titled "Low Carbohydrates and Fad Diets."
    Mary Killian, a registered dietitian with Life Quest, will share information on the best diet for healthy living. The class is free and open to the public.
    It will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church, 1334 NE 4th Ave. For more information, call 265-7136.

  • January is open enrollment time for Florida KidCare, affordable, government-subsided health care insurance for children whose parents meet the criteria and do not have access to private insurance.
    For more information or to request an application, call (305) 468-KIDS (5437) or 888-540-5437. The enrollment period ends on Jan. 30. Any applications received after that date will be rejected.

    Register now for arts workshops

  • Registration continues for winter classes of the Gainesville Association for the Creative Arts.
    Workshops for children ages 2 to 17 include art, dance, drama, piano, yoga and crafts, with new Saturday morning classes in drama and dance. Classes begin Jan. 24, and scholarships are available.
