Gainesville Thunder wins AAU state 13U baseball title

The Gainesville Thunder 13-and-under travel baseball team won the Florida State AAU Division I Championship recently. The tournament played host to 30 teams from around the state.
Thunder was led by outstanding pitching with four players: Chris Myers, Austin Lawrence, Tyler Erickson and Jacob Tillotson throwing complete games. Aggressive offense from Bradley Hancock, Clayton Mosley, Josh Hook, Morgan McKinney and Julian Bonds contributed with timely hits. Rounding out the team with solid defense was Michael Ragans, Brett Anderson, Kurt Wietzke and Brandon Walker.
The Thunder advanced to the championship game by beating five quality teams. The final game was played at Tiger Town Stadium in Lakeland against the St. Petersburg Stingers (30-1 record). The Thunder took an early 7-0 lead (later winning 7-4) with strong offensive performances byHancock, Mosley, Tillotson and Erickson.
The iron man award went to Myers who caught 35 innings during the tournament, 28 of which were on the final day.
The Thunder will now travel to the AAU National Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C., July 23-31 as one of the top teams in the country.
