Gators make it a clean sweep

No. 13 Florida defeated No. 22 Auburn for the third time in two days Wednesday to record its first conference softball series sweep of the season, 11-3.
The Gators (34-6, 11-4 SEC) posted 11 hits. Three strong innings propelled the Gators past the Tigers (26-7, 8-4 SEC), who struggled defensively throughout the first few innings and were not able to come back after their early 2-0 lead.
Florida went up in the second inning. Mandy Schuerman started things with a triple after one out. Michelle Diaz then reached on a hit to put runners at the corners. Kristen Butler drove Schuerman in. Mylin Prieto later drove in two more runs with a double.
Auburn was able to tie the game at 3-all in the fourth.
Then the Gators took charge in the bottom of the inning. Lacy Howard put the Gators up for good with here third home run of the season. Lauren Roussell added a RBI single, Melissa Zick stole home, Lindsey Cameron had an RBI double and Diaz also had an run-scoring double to highlight the frame.
Florida continued to put the pressure on Auburn and in the bottom of the sixth, added three more runs to end the game early, as Zick, Cameron and Roussell scored.
Florida now heads into a three-game series against SEC-leading Georgia at the UF Softball Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. Sunday's single game begins at 1:30 p.m.
