Ari Rodriquez was presented the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Award at the 18th annual Catholic Charities Bishop's Dinner held recently at the UF Hilton Hotel and Conference Center.
Rodriguez was recognized for her 20 years of dedicated work with the migrant community of this area.
Also receiving an award was event sponsor, The Cris Collinsworth Foundation, for its generous sponsorship of the dinner. Accepting the award was board member Tom Umlauf.
A sold-out crowd of 450 people attended the dinner organized by the board members of the Gainesville Catholic Charities. This year's honorary chairman was Alachua County Sheriff Stephen M. Oelrich.
With the help of numerous sponsors and those in attendance, a record $55,000 was raised from this event.
All proceeds go to fund the Emergency Services and Partners in Success programs for the regional Catholic Charities office, serving Gainesville and the surrounding area.
Of those receiving assistance, 95 percent are non-Catholics.
