Northwest proposes starting Gainesville-to-Memphis service

Northwest Airlines has proposed starting twice-daily flights between Gainesville and Memphis, Tenn.

The carrier has approached officials about becoming the third airline based at Gainesville Regional Airport in exchange for revenue guarantees, airport improvements and marketing assistance.

Airport officials were scheduled to consider the proposal at a meeting this afternoon.

Northwest has flights to a number of cities from its Memphis hub, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver and Dallas.
