A former roommate of a University of Florida graduate assistant Sudheer Satti, found dead in his apartment earlier this month, was arrested Thursday for the theft of Satti's missing lap top computer, The Gainesville Sun has learned.
Parveen Kumar Vedam, 25, is charged with grand theft of the computer, the University of Florida Police Department reported.
Police learned of the missing computer while investigating Satti's death.
The 24-year-old Satti was found in the bedroom of his apartment at Maguire Village, an apartment complex on campus. Police have said Satti was stabbed multiple times. Missing from the apartment were a number of electronic items, including the lap top computer.
But police later learned the computer had been used between Jan. 9 and Jan. 11, after Satti's death. Investigators discovered the computer was used to access the Internet from a local business where Vedam was working.
The business was searched on Jan. 16. A computer case, believed to have been Satti's, was found hidden in the attic.
Police have not said if Vedam is a suspect in the murder.
Vedam spoke at a service held for Satti at UF last week and gave a message from Satti's family that thanked his friends and UF for their support.
