The owner of an Archer pizza restaurant was seriously injured Tuesday night after authorities say he was beaten and robbed.
Alex Kesler, 55, was closing up the American Pie A' Pizzeria at 9:20 p.m. when a masked man came up behind him in the parking lot and beat him with a stick or a board, said Alachua County Sheriff's Lt. Jim Troiano.
The man beat Kesler several times before asking for his money, reports said. Kesler reached into his car and gave the man about $100, Troiano said. The man ran off, and authorities hadn't found him as of Wednesday evening.
Kesler suffered a large cut on his head and was brought to North Florida Regional Medical Center, where hospital staff said he was in fair condition Wednesday.
Authorities are concerned about the level of violence used in the crime.
"It doesn't happen very often," Troiano said.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 367-4184 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 372-7867. (372-STOP.)
The Sheriff's Office is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the robber's identity.
