Stop being so greedy, lower the price and they will come

When a business loses 72 percent of its business to some other competitor it usually folds unless it takes steps to correct the situation. The same holds true for the Gainesville Regional Airport.
It is not an issue of pledges of tickets or federal grant money. More people would fly into and out of Gainesville if the cost were more reasonable. I have seen the cost of a ticket be twice as much as the same ticket with the same airline out of Jacksonville. It is much cheaper to take the extra time and spend the extra gas, on a hour and half or longer trip to Orlando, Jacksonville or Tampa.
It is simple economics, supply and demand as it were. The demand is here, the supply is not due to its outrageous cost.
The airport authority can argue all day long that is not luring airlines to the area. That is the flaw in their logic. The airlines would come here if more people were willing to pay a reasonable ticket price. Twice the ticket price is simply not worth it.
It is not a hard concept to grasp, but apparently it is to the authority. Lower the ticket prices to normal amounts, stop being so greedy and the people will come.
The same holds true for the gas prices. Everyone knows Gainesville gas stations, being the highest priced in the state of Florida, are gouging....but that's another issue.
