Brandon Siler is the Florida Gators 13th commitment this recruiting season and the first at linebacker. Siler, who was thought to have committed during the CaliFlorida Game for a brief time, committed to Ron Zook tonight. Brandon was named the MVP of that all star game for a performance that featured two interceptions, one of which that he returned for a touchdown. The performance was so dominant against the best California had to offer that his ranking went from 3 stars to 4.
At 6'2 and 220 pounds with 4.5 speed, Siler is a physically gifted linebacker prospect with great hands. He is also a very sure tackler and won't miss many chances to bring someone down. He also is a very strong student, having boasted a 4.2 GPA heading into his senior year. Once thought to be a Southern Cal lock, Brandon is a huge addition to the Gators' 2004 recruiting class.
The Gators may also hear within the next week on a couple of other major linebacker prospects. Javier Estopinan, a physically dominating middle linebacker from Miami, and Josh Johnson, an extremely physically gifted middle linebacker out of Stone Mountain, GA, are both expected to make their college intentions known in the near future. Johnson may make his pledge on Countdown to Signing Day next week. Johnson will decide between Florida and Miami and Estopinan will be selecting either Florida or Ohio State. Also All American wide receiver Xavier Carter is expected to announce between Florida and LSU this Sunday.
