Government buildings not equipped for disabled

Page 1 of The Gainesville Sun (Jan.14) provides a jolly juxtaposition:

The headline says that President Bush is seeking $1 billion for NASA to build a base for space exploration on the moon. On the very same page handicapped people are abandoning their wheelchairs and crawling up the steps at the base of the Supreme Court. They're protesting the fact that many government buildings do not provide adequate access for the handicapped, thus preventing them from conducting necessary business with their government.

Of course, conquering space is politically sexy. Apparently providing for our disabled citizens is not on the agenda for compassionate conservatism.
