Brandon Daniel, a defensive tackle out of Pompano Beach Ely, has enrolled for the spring semester after committing to the University of Florida on Christmas Day.
Ely coach Steven Davis said location was crucial in his choosing to sign with Florida. Daniel visited Florida in December with his family and had a good visit with Ron Zook.
"Being a state school, he was able to stay close to home," Davis said. "I think that was important to him and his family too."
Davis said Daniel, who runs a 4.7 40-yard dash, offers great size for a high school defensive lineman at 6-4, 285 pounds.
"He's definitely a bigger kid," Davis said. "He probably has to improve his upper body strength a little bit. I think from there he's going to be a hell of a player."
Davis said Daniel plays the run very well, is a solid pass rusher and can play either tackle or end at the college level.
In addition to his physical skills, Daniel is a hard worker and watches film willingly to learn about his opponents.
"He'll work hard for Coach Zook," Davis said. "If he gets his upper body strength up, I think he can be a real good player at the next level. I have no doubt about it."
