Continental Airlines will not bring service to Gainesville, the company announced today. The company had been considering adding non-stop flights to Newark and Houston, but pulled out of negotiations, saying they don't think the market can support them.
Continental is walking away from $1.3 million in local and federal incentives. Local officials are still actively negotiating with Northwest Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Airlines for new or expanded service into Gainesville Regional Airport.
