Man charged in sexual battery at knifepoint

  • A Gainesville man was charged with sexual battery after a woman said he molested her at knifepoint.

The woman was in the Gainesville Downtown Plaza when Dustin Garner approached her and asked her to go for a walk with him, according to the arrest report.

Garner, an acquaintance of the woman, walked her to a dark area near the 500 block of SE 4th Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. Monday and molested her, the report states. She told him to stop and he put a knife to her neck, the report states.

The woman called authorities. Garner, 25, told police the sexual act was consensual and that he had no knife. The man's wife, who watched the two walk away from the plaza, confirmed that he did have a knife, the report states.

The woman had a cut on her neck that appeared to be consistent to having a knife held against her neck.

Garner, 3600 Windmeadows Blvd., was booked into the Alachua County jail early Tuesday.
