Britney Spears is far from the first celebrity to obtain a get-out-of-marriage-free card. Some other high-profile annulments:
DARVA CONGER AND RICK ROCKWELL: Back in March 2000, the dawning of TV's Reality Age, Conger outfoxed 49 other contestants to win a ring from Rockwell on "Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire." Then it was disclosed that Rockwell's former fiancee had obtained a restraining order against him, saying he hit her. "He was not honest," Conger told the judge. Or maybe she just didn't like him.
LASTED: Six weeks.
R. KELLY AND AALIYAH: Years before his alleged underage sex tape, Kelly produced a 15-year-old Aaliyah's smash debut album, "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number." Keeping it real, Aaliyah then lied about her age to obtain a marriage license in Kelly's home state of Illinois. Her outraged parents quickly terminated the 1994 union.
LASTED: About as long as it took for Aaliyah's mom to find out.
RUDOLPH GIULIANI AND REGINA PERUGGI: The former New York mayor's first marriage was to his second cousin _ a no-no for Catholics without special church dispensation. So when the couple fell out of love, the Catholic Church (which doesn't sanction divorce) granted an annulment.
LASTED: Fourteen years.
JANET JACKSON AND JAMES DEBARGE: They met on the set of the TV show "Soul Train." They wed without her parents' knowledge. But the singer DeBarge was more into drugs and alcohol than Jackson, which proved to be a poor career choice for him.
LASTED: Three months.
ZSA ZSA GABOR AND FELIPE DE ALBA: In 1982, the prolific Zsa Zsa underwent her eighth marriage ceremony, to Felipe de Alba. Since Zsa Zsa was still married to Husband No. 7, and the ceremony was performed by a ship's captain at sea, the annulment may have been redundant.
LASTED: One day.
KING HENRY VIII AND CATHERINE OF ARAGON: Henry couldn't persuade the Catholic Church to annul his marriage to Catherine so he could wed Anne Boleyn _ so he broke with the pope and ordered the annulment himself, which led to the founding of the Anglican church.
LASTED: Twenty-three years.
