WEST PALM BEACH - A man killed his ex-wife by running her over with his car several times early Friday, sheriff's officials said.
Ortillio Pedroso, 62, was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Miriam Pedroso, 53, whom he had recently divorced after 35 years of marriage.
Deputies said Pedroso came to his ex-wife's home Thursday night and the couple began arguing. They left in her car and were traveling on Congress Avenue when Miriam Pedroso tried to get out of the car, according to sheriff's reports.
Ortillio Pedroso hit his ex-wife with the car door and she was knocked to the ground.
Witnesses told investigators that "the suspect proceeded to run over the victim 3 or 4 times with the vehicle."
A witness who tried unsuccessfully to stop Ortillio Pedroso helped investigators identify him. He was being held without bond at the Palm Beach County jail.
It was not known Friday whether he had retained a private attorney.
