Just the facts

My Nov. 19 letter about our perversely lost nation brought criticism because I stated no facts. I'll give it a try.
The 400 wealthiest Americans control nearly $1,000 billion ($1 trillion). The three richest people are "worth" more than the combined wealth of the 48 poorest nations. Half the world's population lives on less than $2 a day.
One-third of the people sharing our planet do not have safe drinking water. Some 790 million people are undernourished. America has less than 5 percent of the world's population but consumes 25 percent of its energy and produces 25 percent of the pollution.
America wants to use its drinking water to grow corn to burn in its automobiles. George W. Bush "earned" $15 million when taxpayers paid for the Texas Rangers stadium. Dick Cheney has a $20 million retirement package from Halliburton. America spends $400 billion a year devising better ways to kill people.
How about a few cerebral facts?
Teachers raise our children but scrounge for meager wages. America's greatness is defined by its ease and efficiency to kill people. Our pledge of allegiance ends with "...liberty and justice for all," but our president crusades against gay marriage.
