GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- University of Florida graduate and football great Emmitt Smith will be honored at halftime of the 2003 Orange and Blue Spring Football Game on Sat., April 12, at 1 p.m.
Fans will have the chance to salute Smith for his recent accomplishment of becoming the NFL's all-time rushing leader. Smith was a three-time All-American at the University of Florida from 1987-89.
He established 58 school records in three seasons, including a career rushing mark of 3,928 yards. Following his junior season with the Gators, Smith was a first-round selection in the 1990 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys.
Smith finished the 2002 season with 17,162 career yards on 4,052 attempts, eclipsing Walter Payton's 18 year-old NFL rushing mark against Seattle on Oct. 27. On Wednesday, March 26, Smith agreed to terms with the Arizona Cardinals.
