BUFFALO, N.Y. - Curtis Brown scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-3 victory over the Dallas Stars on Friday night.

Ales Kotalik, Jason Botterill and Stu Barnes each had a goal and an assist, Brian Campbell scored a goal and Miroslav Satan had three assists for Buffalo, which is 2-1-1 in its last four games.

Philippe Boucher, Jere Lehtinen and Scott Young scored for Dallas, which finished its road trip 1-1-1-1.

With the game tied 3-3, Brown took a pass from Kotalik behind the net and fired it past Ron Tugnutt from the edge of the right faceoff circle to give the Sabres the lead with 12:22 left.

The Stars thought they tied it with 3:18 left, but replays showed Claude Lemieux tipped in the shot from the point with a high stick.

Botterill added an insurance goal - his first of the season - on the power play with 1:29 left to make it 5-3.

With less than a minute left in the second period, Young tied it 3-3 when he beat Martin Biron on the power play.

Lehtinen's 26th goal made it 3-2 with 2:12 left in the second when he wristed a shot past Biron in the slot.

  • GUERIN INJURED: Dallas forward Bill Guerin was scratched from Friday night's game against Buffalo with a bruised thigh. Guerin, second on the Stars with 25 goals and 50 points, is listed as day-to-day and will be re-evaluated Saturday. He was hurt late in Thursday's overtime loss at Ottawa. The Stars also scratched forward Rob DiMaio, who is listed as week-to-week after bruising his chest Thursday.
