KEY LARGO: Another pygmy sperm whale beaches itself
A beached 950-pound pygmy sperm whale was rescued and taken to a treatment center Friday, one day after another beached whale of the same species died there. A local fisherman discovered the 11-foot whale beached on a shallow water oceanside sandbar near Islamorada early Friday, said Kyle Lane of the Marine Mammal Conservancy. The Florida Marine Patrol was contacted and called Conservancy officials to aid in the rescue and transport the whale to a natural lagoon at the Conservancy's Key Largo treatment center.
MIAMI: Man arrested in series of rapes
Police have arrested a Hialeah man in sexual attacks on at least four women, including two whose children lay nearby during the assaults. Julio Soler, 38, was arrested at his home Friday after a tip connected him to the four crimes, Miami-Dade Police Detective Juan DelCastillo said. He admitted the assaults and gave a DNA sample that matched evidence taken from the victims, DelCastillo added. Soler was being held in Miami-Dade County Jail without bond, DelCastillo said. He faces multiple counts of armed sexual battery, armed kidnapping, armed robbery, armed aggravated battery and armed occupied burglary. The four assaults took place in one area of Miami in November and January, police said.
