Matheny scores 26 to key Chiefland victory

Chiefland's K.K. Matheny nearly outscored the entire Trenton girls basketball team (6-10), as she drained six three-pointers on the way to a 26-point night, and a 61-36 win Friday.

Matheny added six assists and three steals, while Fran Carter contributed 13 points and six rebounds to help Chiefland improve to 13-4.

  • WILLISTON 55, DIXIE COUNTY 37: Brittany Cannady led three Red Devils in double figures, as Williston improved to 13-6.

    Cannady had 19 points, while Dominique Coleman added 11 points and Saretta Appling contributed 10 points and a team-high 12.

  • BRANFORD 44, FORT WHITE 36: Amanda McNabb and Ashley Painter combined for 33 of Branford's points.

    McNabb added four rebounds and two steals, and Painter had a team-high five assists, helping the Bucs improve to 7-6.

  • OAK HALL 59, BRONSON 18: Kittery Neale used 16 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists to help keep the Eagles undefeated in district play (10-0, 19-3 overall).

    Boys basketball

  • OAK HALL 56, BRONSON 47: Ben Stirt had a game-high 20 points to help the Eagles past Bronson (17-5 and No. 7 in Class A) for the second time this season.

    Jeremy Woodley and Shane Schuler led Bronson with 14 points apiece in the district loss.

  • BAKER COUNTY 46, SANTA FE 42: Santa Fe almost upset Baker County (18-1 and No. 1 in 3A), but a four-point third quarter left the Raiders (10-11) playing catch-up.

    Jeff Camps and Cory Vejraska led Santa Fe with 10 points, while Baker County's Jeremiah Colvin had a game-high 16 points.

  • BELLEVIEW 65, COLUMBIA 37: Although Columbia's Murrell Cray had an 18-point, 10-rebound effort, he was overshadowed by Belleview's Quinton Jackson, who finished with 24.

  • LAFAYETTE 65, BELL 55: Four players combined for 60 of 65 points, as Lafayette used a 23-10 first quarter to take a permanent lead.

    Tony Watson had a team-high 18 points, Tamar Jones drained 16, Cedric Reid contributed 14 and Cameron Smith added 12 for the Hornets.

  • BUCHHOLZ 60, ORANGE PARK 31: The Bobcats held Orange Park to single-digit points in three quarters to improve to 13-9 and 5-0 in district play.

    Jerome Rutledge led Buchholz with 13 points, and Chris Bright added 11.

  • CHIEFLAND 76, TRENTON 48: Chiefland's Roger and Leo Sliney collected 28 and 19 points respectively to help the Indians improve 9-8 and 4-2 in district play.
