One day removed from solidifying the top seed in its district, the Buchholz High School soccer team handed visiting Columbia a 2-0 setback Saturday.
The Bobcats dominated the Tigers throughout with speed and endurance. Buchholz's defense swarmed the Tigers, not allowing a shot on goal, while the Bobcats attempted 18 of their own.
"We have some good depth on our defense and we have a great sweeper and a great keeper, "said Buchholz coach Kelly Childers, whose team improved to 17-4-4. "Offensively, we were reacting instead of setting the tone, but we changed that in the last 30 minutes."
The initial score came on a header by senior Arin Amat off an assist from Eric Davis early in the contest.
The second goal came with 24:52 left in the game, when junior David Delotelle booted in a rebound in front of the net to put the game out of reach.
The Tigers, who were without four starters, including leading scorers Matt Richardson and J.R. Perry, could not establish momentum.
"We're trying to put something together," Childers said. "We just need to keep building on what we're doing."
