HIALEAH GARDENS - Police fatally shot a wandering bull after it trampled a 12-year-old boy, possibly breaking his leg.
The bull was spotted at 6:30 p.m. Thursday roaming around near Hialeah Gardens Elementary, police Lt. Van Toth said. A resident in a pick-up truck tried unsuccessfully to corral the bull. The animal came after him but the man avoided getting hit.
An officer came to help the man and the bull fled down a residential street. It trampled the boy and knocked him into the air, Toth said. Officers then opened fire and killed the animal.
The boy was recovering from leg, arm and head injuries at Palmetto General Hospital in Miami on Friday, Toth said. The boy's leg could be broken.
Police were still trying to figure out where the bull came from and were investigating several area farms, Toth said.
