EDGEWATER, Fla. (AP) - Four people were killed Saturday when their single-engine plane crashed into an island on the Intracoastal Waterway, authorities said.
The Cessna 172P took off from Sanford, and authorities were called to the scene of the crash shortly after 12:30 p.m., Volusia County sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.
Officials recovered the bodies of two men and two women from the wreckage, Davidson said. Two of the victims were identified as Kathleen Stanley, 53, of Bowmansville, N.Y., and her 29-year-old son, Kevin W. Stanley of Lancaster, N.Y.
The other two victims, including the male pilot, are believed to be a husband and wife from Sanford. It was not immediately known where the Cessna was going.
The cause of the crash will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.
Edgewater is 18 miles southeast of Daytona Beach.
