Credit state Sen. Stephen Wise, R-Jacksonville, for his proposal that drivers older than 75 take a vision test before their driver licenses are renewed.
Although 10 states have similar laws, Wise said he expects the bill will be killed because so many voters are over age 65. Florida's law is one of the weakest in the nation, allowing two six-year renewals by mail.
A driver moving to Florida and obtaining a license at age 70 would not have to have a vision test until he or she turned 88.
