CLASS 5A ALL-STATE FOOTBALL

Hawthorne leads Buchholz players

The Florida Sports Writers Association released its Class 5A all-state football teams on Friday, and Buchholz was represented by eight players.
Leading the way was senior linebacker Shane Hawthorne, The Sun's 2002 large school defensive player of the year, who received a first-team nod. Senior offensive lineman Branson Smith was named to the third team.
Senior linebacker/safety/wide receiver Ryan Norris, sophomore quarterback Alex Thompson, junior receivers Bo Smith and Emanuel Baker, senior linebacker Donnell Sheridan and senior offensive lineman Chris Enwall all earned honorable mention slots.
Florida commitment Jermaine Moriera, a receiver from Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, was placed on the first team.
