  • With football season officially over in Gainesville, the spotlight this week belongs to some of the area's top girls soccer teams as they face off in the 25th Buchholz Lady Bobcat Invitational Tournament.
    The 12-team, round-robin tournament begins at 2 p.m. today, and will utilize the soccer fields at Kanapaha Park, as well as the University of Florida practice field.
    Competition runs through Saturday, with the championship match scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Percy Beard Stadium.
    The local teams participating include host and last year's runner-up Buchholz, Columbia, Eastside, Keystone Heights and Oak Hall, while Jacksonville Bartram Trail, Belleview, Ocala Forest, Lakewood, Tallahassee Lincoln, South Fork and Washington will be making the trip to Gainesville.
