Area jurist Crouch dies at age 80
A leading local attorney and jurist, T. Allen Crouch, died Wednesday at Shands at AGH.
Mr. Crouch, 80, practiced law in the area for more than 50 years and was a graduate of Gainesville High School and the University of Florida. He was born in Gainesville and was a lifelong resident. He was formerly First Judge of Small Claims Court of Alachua County, where he served nine years, and was a member and past president of the 8th Judicial Circuit Bar Association.
He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity, the American Judiciary Society of America, Estate Planning Council of Gainesville, American Bar Association, Elks Lodge No. 990, Gainesville Moose Lodge, American Legion, the GHS Has Been Club and the Gainesville Lions Club. He was co-founder and director of United Community Fund of Greater Gainesville, now United Way of Alachua County, and Junior Achievement of North Central Florida. He was inducted into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame in 1997 and was a board member of the Alzheimer's Association.
Mr. Crouch was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served aboard the USS Frederick C. Davis, which was awarded the Navy unit citation for its action at Anzio Beach. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville and served on its board of deacons and trustees.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen J. Crouch.
Survivors include his brother, S. Lee Crouch of Fort Myers; and sisters Madge Davenport Williams of Oriental, N.C., and Delma C. Nelson of Gainesville.

Idella White Baker
Mrs. Baker was born in Archer and was a lifetime resident. She was a member of Banks United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Herbert Jackson.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela White Butler of Gainesville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ralph Cox Dampier
Mr. Dampier was born in Alachua and came to Starke from Welborn in 1994. He was a former service station owner in Welborn and most recently worked as a volunteer crossing guard for the city of Starke. He was a Baptist, served as president of the Starke Rotary Club and was a member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Dampier of Gainesville; sisters Lena Kennon of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Grace Walker of Melbourne; and brothers John G. Dampier of Starke and Kenneth Dampier of Sebring.

Gladys Loomis Francis
Mrs. Francis was born in Sempronilis, N.Y., and moved to Starke from Tampa in 1976. She was a retired secretary.
She was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church and was active in the Food Pantry program, the Senior Citizens program, the Toys for Tykes program, the Bradford Alumni Association and the Girl Scouts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Francis.
Survivors include daughters Lorraine Smith of Starke and Linda Lee Knoll of Stuttgart, Ark.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Leola Boyd Hudson
Mrs. Hudson was born in Dixie County and came to Mayo in 1966. She was a homemaker and caregiver at a convalescent home. She was a member of Mayo First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John R. Hudson, in 1998.
Survivors include sons John Hudson and Broughton Hudson, both of Mayo; daughters Sheral Hamlin and Patricia Imler, both of Mayo; a brother, Robert Boyd of Chiefland; sisters Lois Bragg of Hollywood and Pansy Bowden of Live Oak; 17 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchil- dren.

Ethel Geneva Jordan
Mrs. Jordan was born in Jena and was a lifetime resident of Dixie County. She was founding pastor and member of Jena Pentecostal Holiness Church and a retired custodian with the Dixie County school system.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Osteen.
Survivors include her daughters Lyndal Olson of Sparta, N.J., Lynette Allen of Old Town and Cookie Chavous of Goldsboro, N.C.; a brother, Ulysses Corbin of Cross City; sisters Robbie Shepard and Lillie Mae Barineau, both of Tallahassee; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren.

Donald Bruce McKechnie
Mr. McKechnie was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and worked in banking, real estate, professional baseball and importing in the Southwest before moving to Chiefland in 1974, where he worked as an electrical plumbing and aluminum contractor. He was retired.
He graduated from Manatee High School and Manatee Junior College in Bradenton and also attended the University of Florida. He was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking, woodworking and gadgetry, and the companionship of his dog Sassy.
He is survived by his brother, William B. McKechnie III of Cross City.

Thelma S. Roberts
Mrs. Roberts was born in Wesley Chapel and came to Chiefland in 1963 from Tampa. She was a homemaker. She was a Baptist and enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Survivors include daughters Mary C. Donaway of Tampa, Joan B. Adkins of Chiefland and Dale A. Hanson of Eugene, Ore.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Michael James Stauff
Mr. Stauff was born in Pawtucket, R.I., and moved to this area in 1996 from St. Petersburg. He was a clockmaker and watchmaker.
He was Founding Commander of AmVets Post No. 88, and served as Adjutant. He was also a member of VFW Post 5625 in Chiefland. He enjoyed working with horses.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Stauff of Bronson; sons Matthew Stauff and John Stauff, both of Bronson; a daughter, Kelly Stauff of Bronson; brothers Clifford C. Stauff of Pawtucket, R.I., John Stauff of Wittmann, Ariz., Gary Stauff of Dunnellon and Kevin Stauff of Brunswick, Mass.; sisters Barbara Reilly of Narragansett, R.I., Linda Johnson of Dighton, Mass., and Judith Barber of Boynton Beach; and four grandchildren.
