NO. 4 PATRICK PETERSON

LSU junior cornerback

Why he's No. 4: Peterson enters the 2010 season as not just one of the premier shutdown corners in the SEC, but nationally. In 2009, he recorded 52 tackles (43 solo), 13 pass breakups and two interceptions. Peterson frustrated quarterbacks so much that they threw to his side of the field less and less as the season went on. He'll challenge the best receiver on the field every game.

Key number: 3. Even with Peterson's outstanding coverage skills, he's only recorded three interceptions during his three years at LSU. That may be due to quarterbacks not wanting to throw his way, but he could lack national appeal with low digits in this category.

Fun fact: Peterson originally signed with LSU as the nation's top cornerback prospect in the country as Patrick “Johnson.” The son of Patrick and Shandra Peterson, he legally changed his last name to Peterson in August of 2008.
