A year ago, the Southeastern Conference coaches surprised a lot of people when they chose Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler as their first-team preseason quarterback.
Chris Leak hopes they're right again. Cutler ended up as the postseason All-SEC quarterback and Leak wouldn't mind the double honor. On Thursday, the Florida quarterback was named to the coaches' first team. The media's team will be announced next week.
Leak is one of three Gator players on the first team and one of 10 Gators to be named to the three teams. The other first-team players are linebacker Brandon Siler and defensive back Reggie Nelson. Nelson may start at safety this year or could move to cornerback after the departure of Avery Atkins.
On the second team - wide receiver Dallas Baker, defensive lineman Ray McDonald and Marcus Thomas, linebacker Earl Everett and place-kicker Chris Hetland.
The third team includes Florida wide receiver Andre Caldwell, who missed most of last season with a broken leg, and punter Eric Wilbur.
The coaches are not allowed to vote for anyone from their own team. Auburn led the way with 14 players selected to the three teams.
