As National Signing Day for high school football players creeps closer, many players are coming off the boards for many schools, having made their commitments one way or another. Below are 50 of the top players, ranked in terms of position, need and overall talent. These players are left for the University of Florida to offer scholarships to. Players who have already verbally committed to the Gators are in bold and discussed briefly. 1. Chris Scott OL Lovejoy High School (GA) 6-foot-4 315-pounds 5.3 40-yard dash

Avery Atkins DB Mainland High School (FL) 5-foot-11 185-pounds 4.45 Avery is a talented athlete who can play on both offense and defense. He has a soft verbal commitment to University of Florida. Avery is one of the nations top ranked cover corners, who, by the end of the season, rarely saw passes even thrown to his side of the field. 4. Brian Cushing LB Bergen Catholic High School (NJ) 6-foot-3 230-pounds 4.5 5. Matt Hardrick OL Edgewater High School (FL) 6-foot-5 340-pounds 5.7 6. O.J. Murdock WR Middleton High School (FL) 6-foot 185-pounds 4.4 7. Reggie Nelson S Coffeyville Community College (KS) 6-foot 180-pounds 4.4 8. R.J. Jackson RB Westside High School (TX) 5-foot-11 200-pounds 4.55 9. Ronnie Wilson OL Blanche Ely High School (FL) 6-foot-3 335-pounds 5.4 A solid verbal commitment to Florida, Ronnie is one of the most dominant offensive guards in the nation. Was selected to the second team All-State in Florida as a junior. One of the top-20 offensive guards in the country. 10. Jerome Hayes LB Bayonne High School (NJ) 6-foot-2 225-pounds 4.6 11. Jon Demps LB Washington Senior High School (FL) 6-foot-4 228-pounds 4.7 12. Derrick McPhearson WR Fork Union Military Academy (VA) 5-foot-11 185-pounds 4.4 Derrick has a soft verbal commitment to Florida. He is a decently-sized receiver who uses his very good speed to propel him up the receiver rankings. Ranked as the 8th best receiver in the nation by GatorCountry.com and the 11th best prep school player by Rivals.com. 13. Daryl Gresham LB William Flemming High School (VA) 6-foot-3 230-pounds 4.7 14. Josh Portis QB William Howard Taft High School (CA) 6-foot-3 190-pounds 4.55 One of the top-10 quarterbacks in the country according to Rivals.com and GatorCountry.com, Portis had originally committed to Utah, but followed new Florida head coach, Urban Meyer, and is now solidly committed to the Gators. A great athlete, who can do it all, running and throwing. With his great accuracy, he threw for 30 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. He also rushed for 11 touchdowns. 15. Gerald Williams LB Boyd H. Anderson High School (FL) 6-foot-4 225-pounds 4.75 A monster at middle linebacker, Williams is a soft verbal commit to Florida. He combines great size and decent speed, and could be used at either linebacker or defensive end at the next level. Had more than 130 tackles, nine sacks and three interceptions in his senior season. Has skyrocketed up the charts in many recruiting services, now being ranked as high as the 7th overall inside linebacker by Rivals.com. 16. Kestahn Moore RB Mansfield Summit High School (TX) 5-foot-10 199-pounds 4.45 17. Mikell Simpson RB Harrisburg High School (PA) 6-foot-1 200-pounds 4.4 18. Brandon La Fell WR Lamar High School (TX) 6-foot-3 170-pounds 4.5 19. Vladimir Richard DL Piper High School 6-foot-4 255-pounds 5.0 Vladimir has a soft verbal commitment to the Gators. He is one of the top-30 defensive linemen in the country. He brings good size to the end position, with very good smarts, bringing with him a 3.4 GPA. 20. Brian Ellis TE Mainland High School (TX) 6-foot-3 235-pounds 4.6 21. Fred Bussey LB Upson-Lee High School (GA) 6-foot-1 225-pounds 4.7 22. James McKinney DL Central High School (KY) 6-foot-3 263-pounds 4.9 23. Ricky Jean-Francois DL Carol High School (FL) 6-foot-3 245-pounds 4.6 24. Jeffrey Owens DL Plantation High School (FL) 6-foot-2 275-pounds 4.9 25. Brian Roche OL Don Bosco Prep School (NJ) 6-foot-5 280-pounds 5.026. Dorian Munroe S Coral Reef Senior High School (FL) 6-foot 185-pounds 4.5 Ranked as the 11th best safety in the nation by both Rivals.com and GatorCountry.com, Dorian has a solid verbal commitment to Florida. He led powerful Miami-Dade County in interceptions in his junior year. Was selected to the Florida team for the annual CaliFlorida All-Star Game. 27. Walter McFadden CB Blanche Ely High School (FL) 6-foot 175-pounds 4.4 28. Matt Lewis LB Mainland High School (FL) 6-foot-2 240-pounds 4.6 29. Chris Chancellor CB Miami Edison Senior High School (FL) 5-foot-9 153-pounds 4.5 30. David Nelson WR Rider High School (TX) 6-foot-6 195-pounds 4.5 A huge wide receiver, Nelson creates mismatches with mostly any defensive back he plays against. He has verbally committed to the Gators. Was one of the top pass-catchers in Texas in 2004. His final stats this year were incredible, catching 91 passes for 1,648 yards and 18 touchdowns. 31. Quentin Taylor LB Apopka Senior High School (FL) 6-foot-1 205-pounds 4.64 32. Quinton Brown OL Edgewater High School 6-foot-6 270-pounds 5.3 33. Quinton Andrews S Monsignor Pace High School (FL) 5-foot-11 190-pounds 4.65 34. Simon Codrington OL South Miami Senior High School (FL) 6-foot-7 255-pounds 5.2 35. Kenton Thornton WR Blair Academy (NJ) 6-foot-5 225-pounds 4.6 36. Tony Wright RB Peach County High School (GA) 5-foot-11 185-pounds 4.47 Wright, who is a soft verbal commitment to the Gators, is a small but quick running back. Ranked among the top 25 running backs in the country, Wright could bring a scat-back running style to the Gators. 37. Tyller Roberts DB Edgewater High School (FL) 6-foot 190-pounds 4.45 38. Paul O'Hara RB Dixie County High School (FL) 5-foot-11 215-pounds 4.6 39. Kent Richardson DB James Rickards High School (FL) 6-foot 188-pounds 4.5 40. Rodney Milsap DL Fitzgerald High School (GA) 6-foot 247-pounds 4.7 41. Korey Mangum S La Marque High School (TX) 5-foot-10 180-pounds 4.66 42. Nyan Boateng WR Abraham Lincoln High School (NY) 6-foot-3 190-pounds 4.45 Nyan has verbally committed to the University of Florida. He suffered a broken leg before the start of the 2004 season, but was still named a starter in the U.S. Army All-American Game. Rated as one of the top wide receivers in the nation, Nyan has great size and speed, and looks to be back with his showing at the All-American Game. 43.
