Christian Scott is the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday. It’s the third time this season a UF player has earned the honor and the first by Scott.
Scott, a native of Parkland, Fla., was lights out over two appearances last week. The right-hander limited hitters to a .077 batting average against over eight innings with only one unearned run allowed while striking out 10. He earned the win out of the bullpen against No. 21 Florida State on Tuesday and again Saturday against Alabama.
On Tuesday vs. FSU, Scott took the mound trailing 2-1 and held the Seminoles scoreless the final 3.1 innings to allow the Gators comeback win. On Saturday vs. Alabama, he took over with a 5-1 lead and pitched 4.2 innings with only one hit allowed and an unearned run.
For the season, Scott has a 1.71 earned run average over nine appearances (21 innings) with 22 strikeouts and just five walks.
Florida hosts Florida A&M on Tuesday at 6 p.m. This weekend, the Gators travel to Oxford, Miss., for a three-game series at Ole Miss.
The Gators moved up several spots to No. 21 in the latest Top 25.
