Cornerback Trey Dean, who took over as the starter for the injured Marco Wilson in the second game of the season, has been named to the SEC All-Freshman team that was released by the league Thursday.

Dean, a true freshman, played in all 12 games and started eight. He is second on the team in pass break-ups with six and has recorded 22 tackles. He had his first career interception in the win over Florida State, returning it 44 yards.

True freshman kicker Evan McPherson was left off the team despite making 15 of 17 field goal attempts and all of his extra points.

    • So Seth Small from TAMU was voted All-SEC Freshman. He was 19/26 and did kick a 52-yarder. Still, of the kickers in the SEC, he was #10 in accuracy as about 73%. He is good but who was #1 in accuracy? Evan McPherson at 15(16 really)/17 (88%). His longest was only 48 yards though. I really think he was ripped off. Seth Small is a fine kicker but McPherson is the man.

  1. Who the heck picks these guys??? McPherson was far and away a better kicker then any of the others in the SEC missed two kicks all year and one of those was very questionable. I would have also put Pierce on there he’s a bad*** RB. Dean has been a beast since his debut always plays hard and is big enough to play safety, that way we have Wilson, Henderson and Dean back there. The future is looking great for DBU!
